Abstract: The papers in this special journal issue on “The Domestication of Utopia” were all originally prepared for presentation in a plenary panel by that name at the 20th International Meeting of the Utopian Studies Society-Europe (“Utopia, Dystopia and Climate Change”), held at the Monash University Centre in Prato, Italy, 1-5 July 2019. The plenary was a collective project that originated in a common and enduring sense of discomfort among its participants about the contemporary trajectory of the discipline of utopian studies. Among the participants in this dialogue were the contributors to this special issue – Darren Webb (University of Sheffield), Laurence Davis (University College Cork), Siân Adiseshiah (Loughborough University), and Raffaella Baccolini (University of Bologna) – as well as Tom Moylan (University of Limerick), Nathaniel Coleman (Newcastle University), and Antonis Balasopoulos (University of Cyprus).
