Abstract: This article investigates what happens when a story set in a specific cultural context starts to circulate beyond its boundaries and is enjoyed by readers that are not necessarily familiar with the original cultural background. As a case study, the article looks at the novel Acciaio, by the Italian author Silvia Avallone. In order to study its foreign reception, it takes into account the novel’s customer reviews, as well as the comments shared by readers on Amazon and Goodreads. In turn, this analysis will provide some basis for a discussion of the dynamics or local and global dimensions in the context of the so-called global literature era.
