Abstract: The translator of the letter, according to Antoine Berman's expression, necessarily encounters four types of problems: lexical, grammatical, rhetorical and melodic-rhythmic. The solution to each of these problems depends on three parameters: the genre to which the text belongs (novel, play, essay, etc.); the general linguistic characteristics of the text; the context in which the problem appears. In his first play, Tout mon amour (2012), Laurent Mauvignier presents five characters who express themselves in familiar oral French. In our article, we will analyse some of the problems posed by the translation of the dialogues between the five characters into Italian: since this text is intended to be performed on a stage, our translation has tried to find a balance between the need to reproduce the lexical-syntactic choices of the source text, i.e. Mauvignier's dialogic writing, and the pragmatic requirements imposed by the Italian language, in order to create a spoken language that would be plausible for an Italian-speaking audience.
